5 Easy Ways to Improve Your Credit Score

You probably already knew that your credit score is one of your most important financial assets. In fact, it can make or break your financial future. If your credit score is high, you will enjoy a lower loan rates. You could also secure a better job because many top employers require applicants to have a good credit rating. If it is low, you will have difficulty in getting most secured loans, such as home loans, including a difficulty in applying for credit cards.

The biggest challenge of all is how to improve your credit score and maintain your credit score level. The good news is, you can actually improve your credit score within as little as two months.

You need to know what factors your credit score is based on (not in a particular order.) Some of them include: current debt owed, recent credit checks, repayment history and registered income.

With those factors in mind, here are some steps to repair or raise your credit score:

1. Pay your revolving credit cards off

Revolving credit cards are monthly credit cards – you might have paid before the due date, but the credit card companies report the owed debt on monthly basis which may be before the due date. This won’t show as bad debt on your credit score, but this will decrease your overall score. Recommendations: If you have one credit card, pay the due amount off before the end of the month. If you have a couple of credit cards, pay the minimum on both credit cards and work on paying off in full on one, initially.

2. Increase your registered income

Registered income is your salary from work (the official amount.) Usually, the amount of the registered income matches with your actual earning. If your debt is larger than your earning, your credit score is lowered. Recommendations: You must find a way to increase your earnings – e.g. by looking for a part time job, so that you are able to repay your debt and, in effect, raise your credit score.

3. Check your credit score online

You should check your credit score online with one of the three official companies (Equifax, Experian or TransUnion) to see the current level of your credit score. This can help you discover what to do to increase your credit score. Now you don’t have to visit each official company to check your credit score – you can do just that with the official all-in-one credit score.

4. Stop applying for every interesting offer you came across

Be a sensible consumer. Every time you try to purchase a car, home, or apply for a new credit card your credit score is checked by the creditors (credit card companies, lenders, etc.) The creditors may lower your credit score if you have had two or three credit checks within a few months.

5. Open a savings account and do personal budgeting

Budget for monthly expenses, cash reserves, etc. in such a way so that you will always have funds for the ‘rainy days.’

Last words – you have to protect your credit score because it can affect every financial decision you have, e.g. buying a home, getting a capital, etc. It is not hard to improve your credit rating and raise your credit score. However, it is indeed difficult to maintain them. You should consider getting a credit score monitoring service as it will protect and inform you anything related to your credit score and credit rating.
