How to Save Money on Your Holiday

Going on holiday can be a costly expense, and it doesn’t look to be getting any cheaper.

Of course holidays aren’t essential, and we could all probably live without them – but it’s nice to ‘get away from it all’ at least once a year. But with the cost of jetting off increasing – how can you save money on your holiday?

Go camping

Instead of paying for expensive hotels and over-priced flights, why not venture into the great outdoors and go camping?

The sounds, the smells… the entire experience in fact, will be one the whole family will (or at least should) love and never forget.

Ok, so camping isn’t everyone’s idea of a great holiday – but you won’t know until you’ve actually gone out there and experienced it for yourself.

You will only need to pay for a tent, a few camping accessories (including a stove, sleeping bags and sleeping mats), and you’ll be set to go! If you think you’ll go camping again, you may want to invest in a more expensive/better quality tent, as this should last you longer.

So, head out into the beautiful wilderness and enjoy ‘fending for yourself’ on your next holiday!

Search around for the best deal

If camping really isn’t for you, and you would prefer to go somewhere abroad instead – just make sure you search around for the best deal when you are booking.

So, instead of just booking the first ‘decent’ holiday you see – make a note of it, and compare it against other holidays you find. Take a look at what you are actually getting for your money, and make sure you don’t pay for things you know you won’t need to use while you’re away.

Don’t use your cell phone abroad

As a rule of thumb, you should avoid using your cell phone abroad. The cost of calling home from another country (no matter how near/far) can be very expensive – so unless you’ve got an ‘international calling’ plan, just find a phone box and use that!

‘Kids go free’

If you are thinking of booking a family holiday, have a look at which ones have ‘kids go free’ offers attached to them.

You can often find a family holiday to somewhere exotic for less than $850 (with free places for kids) – so make sure you look out for them!
